Cutting Edge Technology

Dr. A&B Wellness is at the forefront of modern medicine. The technology we utilize was developed out of passion for better medicine, and we believe that automation is the key to high-quality and accurate test results. Multiplexing tests on a single sample enable a fast turnaround time.

Tests We Offer

Allergy Testing

  • The Inhalant Allergy Test is a simple blood test which can diagnose inhalants causing allergies. This test evaluates serum specific IgE antibody levels to common environmental inhalants. This is an ideal allergy test for patients with suspected environmental and/or seasonal allergies.

The test panel includes 46 of the most common allergens, including different types of mites, molds, animal dander, weeds, grasses, insects, trees, and shrubs.

The Food Allergy Test panel includes 96 of the most common allergens that are consumed, including peanut, milk, egg, shellfish, tree nuts, fish, corn, soy, lectin, wheat, fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and nightshades, amongst others.

The test uses only purified natural or recombinant allergen extracts for diagnosis.

  • INHALANT ALLERGY

  • The most common allergic diseases include: hay fever, asthma, conjunctivitis, hives, eczema, dermatitis, and sinusitis. Among these, hay fever, which is also known as allergic rhinitis, is one of the most common kinds of inhalant allergies. Allergic rhinitis appears in two different forms:

      • SEASONAL

Symptoms occur in spring, summer and early fall. They are usually caused by allergic sensitivity to pollens from trees, grasses or weeds, or to airborne mold spores.

        PERENNIAL

Symptoms occur all year-round. Perennial allergic rhinitis is generally caused by sensitivity to house dust mites, animal dander, cockroaches, and/or mold spores

  • The symptoms of a food allergy can vary from mild to severe or even life-threatening. It is not always possible to predict how severe symptoms will be based upon the symptoms experienced during a previous reaction. As an example, a person could have mild hives after eating peanuts on one occasion and then have an anaphylactic reaction after eating peanuts another time. However, reactions are not necessarily worse after each exposure.
  • FOOD ALLERGY RISK FACTORS INCLUDE:

• A family or personal history of allergy, asthma, eczema, hives, or hay fever increases the chances for developing a food allergy.

• Age- Food allergies are more common in children, especially toddlers and infants.

• Having a past food allergy as a child or an allergy to another food; those who are allergic to one type of food are more likely to develop other food allergies.

• History of asthma- asthma and food allergy commonly occur together. When they do, both food allergy and asthma symptoms are more likely to be severe.

Bioidentical Hormones

Urinary hormone testing provides a unique diagnostic view that no other hormone testing offers. Because it assesses both parent hormones and their corresponding metabolites, it reveals how the body is breaking down key hormones like estrogen, progestogens, androgens, cortisol and melatonin.

This testing gives insight into whether we are fully detoxifying our hormones, which is important because some hormones can be carcinogenic if they don’t break down properly – leaving us more at risk for a variety of diseases, like cancer.

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE

• Weight gain

• Anxiety

• Fatigue

• Low sex drive and performance issues

• Sleep disturbances

• Mood instability

• Brain fog

• Hot flashes

• Family history of hormone-dependent cancers – like breast or prostate

• Normal saliva cortisol levels but still experiencing symptoms of fatigue

• Symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as weight gain and insomnia

• Symptoms of PCOS, such as acne and excess facial hair

• Symptoms of menopause and ready to begin hormone replacement therapy

• Symptoms of estrogen dominance while on physiological replacement dosages of therapy

Environmental Toxins

Toxic body burden is the lifelong accumulation of chemicals to which we are exposed through our food, air, and environment. This accumulation is not without consequences, and chronic health conditions like autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as cancer and even diabetes, have been associated with ongoing exposure to environmental toxins.

Research suggests that this exposure begins very early in life. Once thought to be protected by the placental barrier, even infants have shown signs of in-utero toxic exposure. In fact, a 2005 Environmental Working Group (EWG) investigation found over 200 toxic compounds (in aggregate) in the cord blood of 10 newborns.

The Environmental Toxins test is a comprehensive and cost-effective tool that narrows down the areas of toxic burden that could be related to chronic, and intractable symptoms.

Pervasive chemical compounds have been found to disrupt the immune, nervous, and endocrine systems. As more toxicants are used in products that increase the ‘convenience factor’ of our busy lives, there continues to be increases in infertility, certain cancers, developmental delays, asthma, chemical sensitivities, and hormonal imbalances. Environmental toxicants have been implicated in causing and exacerbating many of these conditions.

WHO CAN SUFFER FROM ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS

• Infants - including in utero development and children

• Couples involved in preconception planning or infertility

• People with multiple and repeated toxicant exposures - jobs and hobbies

• People with immune impairment

• People with poor nutrient status

• People experiencing significant weight loss - post bariatric surgery

• Elderly - as toxicants bioaccumulate over time

Additionally, the impact of various exposures (whether individual, simultaneous, sequential, or cumulative over a lifetime) may not be simply additive. Instead, combinations of exposures may have synergistic effects that intensify or otherwise alter their impact, when compared with the effects of each contaminant alone.

The presence of toxicants can be a burden, hindering from healing and responding to treatment. The Environmental Toxins test can help identify your specific toxic burden and together with your provider, help avoid further exposure.

Food Sensitivity

This test offers you a look into over 50 of the most common preservatives that are added to all of our daily foods, some natural but especially processed foods. We can unknowingly be reacting to chemicals that we are not even aware that we are sensitive to. This test is a great way to see what additives may be problematic.

They may trigger any number of food sensitivity symptoms, such as headaches, digestive issues, joint pain or skin problems. It can be tricky to figure out which additives are the culprits, as food sensitivity reactions are often delayed by a few hours or longer after eating the foods. To help identify potentially problematic foods, we offer several different food sensitivity tests, which includes the Foods Additives Profile.

Fungal Antibodies

Fungal tests are used to detect and identify fungi in order to diagnose infections and help guide treatment. Fungal testing typically includes a microscopic examination of the sample on a slide, sometimes using a preparation or stain to aid in detection of fungal elements. This may be sufficient to determine that the infection is due to a fungus and, with superficial infections, no further testing may be required.

However, in cases of persistent, deep, or systemic infections when a more definitive diagnosis is needed, the microscopic exam may be followed by additional tests, such as culture and susceptibility testing, antigen or antibody tests, or molecular tests that detect fungal genetic material.

Toxins released by fungi can cause multiple systemic symptoms, including but not limited to:

GASTROINTESTINAL

Bloating, constipation, gas, heartburn, inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome, bad breath (halitosis), oral thrush

SKIN

Acne, dandruff, anal itching, dermatitis, nail fungus, discolored nails, hives Neurological: poor memory, tingling, anxiety, fatigue, mood swings, brain fog.

ENDOCRINE

Adrenal and thyroid malfunction, impotence, sex hormone imbalances

Fungal overgrowth can be the underlying cause of many chronic inflammatory symptoms or conditions, and symptoms can be identical to many other systemic infections, requiring highly accurate lab testing to provide definitive answers.

Antibodies to fungal microorganisms can often provide clues to fungal overgrowths in the human body that are otherwise difficult to detect, due to biofilm formation.

In patients with exposure to other fungal infections or mycoses, such as toxic mold exposure, concomitant fungal infections are common, and must also be detected and treated to ensure total return to health and well-being.

Gut Health

Examining the entire ecosystem in the human gut can be challenging, but Premier Wellness has a test that can measure hundredsof species of microbes at once, alongside functional markers of digestion and inflammation - providing the most comprehensive gut health test on the market.

With over 170 species of bacteria measured, the Gut Health test can aid advanced practitioners in detecting root causesof acute or chronic illness that stem from the gastrointestinal tract, with correlations to disease states and health risks to guide primary and secondary interventions.

The Gut Health test also includes a robust panel of pathogenic bacteria, yeast, viruses, and parasites that are known to cause serious health concerns in humans.

GUT ZOOMER TESTS FOR:

1. Over 170 Commensal Microbes

2. Over 60 Pathogenic Microorganism, including Bacteria, Fungi, Parasites, and Viruses

3. Inflammatory Markers and Digestive Metabolites

Heavy Metals

These toxic elements can significantly increase our risk of developing conditions like dementia, infertility, diabetes and cancer. They are also known to cause damage to the liver, kidneys and brain, as well as the cardiovascular, nervous and endocrine systems.

Essential elements are abundant, too, and only healthy when they are within optimal ranges. Nutrients like copper, iodine, magnesium, selenium and zinc are critical for enzymes that synthesize neurotransmitters and activate hormones. Bromine and lithium, while not currently classified as “essential” elements, have been shown to play a positive role in health but are also potentially toxic at excessive levels.

Your health care provider may order a heavy metal blood test if you have symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. The symptoms depend on the type of metal and how much exposure there was. Your symptoms may include:

NEUROLOGICAL

Cognitive decline, memory loss, ataxia, tremors, numbness, tinging, neuropathy, myopathy, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, paralysis, Parkinson's Disease, tinnitus, irritability

Micronutrient

Contrary to what most of what current medical authorities would have you believe, the majority of today’s chronic illness and disease is due to our cellular micronutrient deficiencies. It may be possible to slow down aging, improve treatment, and reverse many medical conditions by simply measuring and correcting these deficiencies.

WHAT ARE MICRONUTRIENTS?

Micronutrients are the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids required for energy production, immune function, and growth—are utilized inside the cell. If a cell does not function properly, the metabolic and developmental processes necessary to sustain life are compromised and disease will result.

In short, cell function is a direct indicator of cellular health.

• Advanced age, Stress and/or Fatigue

• Depression or anxiety

• Cardiovascular disease or Diabetes

• Arthritis or Skin problems

• Numbness or tingling in extremities

• Weakened immune system or Autoimmune disorders

• Digestive disorders with malabsorption (Celiac, Crohn’s, colitis)

• SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)

• Long-term use of prescription medication

• A diet high in processed foods or Obesity

• Intense athletic training

• Following a vegan or vegetarian diet

• Neurological symptoms (impaired memory, confusion, tremors)

• Stubborn weight gain or Sudden unexplained weight loss

• Digestive abnormalities: diarrhea, constipation, excessive bloating

BIOCHEMICAL INDIVIDUALITY

Individual needs vary, thus, micronutrient requirements for you may be quite different from the requirements for another.

ABSORPTION OF NUTRIENTS

You are what you absorb, not necessarily what you eat! Malabsorption is common, and is often aggravated by stress, which triggers the inflammatory response that can affect the extent to which nutrients are assimilated.

ILLNESS (ACUTE OR CHRONIC)

Just as micronutrient deficiencies can set the stage for disease, health conditions—and the medications often prescribed to treat and manage them—can contribute to micronutrient depletions.

AGING

Our micronutrient requirements at age 20 are quite different from our requirements at age 40, 50 and beyond. Absorption difficulties, especially of vitamin B12, quite commonly occur as we age.

LIFESTYLE

A variety of habits such as physical activity, prescription and over-the-counter medication use, smoking, and alcohol has an impact on individual micronutrient demands.

Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins are some of the most prevalent toxins in the environment. Mycotoxins are metabolites produced by fungi like mold, which can infest buildings, vehicles, and foodstuffs. A majority of mycotoxin exposures are through food ingestion or airborne exposure. In the European Union, 20% of all grains harvested have been found to be contaminated with mycotoxins.

Fungi are able to grow on almost any surface, especially if the environment is warm and wet. Inner wall materials of buildings, wall paper, FIBERGLASS insulation, ceiling tiles, and gypsum support are all good surfaces for fungi to colonize. species)

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TREATMENT

If you or a patient has done a Mycotoxins Test and the results show moderate to high levels of mycotoxins there are things you can do to help the body eliminate the toxins and prevent future exposures. The first step is to eliminate or reduce exposure to mold. The majority of exposures result from contaminated food, skin contact, and inhalation of spore-borne toxins, which is often caused by water-damaged buildings. Inhalation of spore-borne toxins can be limited by detecting and eliminating damp and moldy environments, both indoor and outdoor.

Mold can enter homes through open windows, vents, doorways, and heating and air conditioning systems. Mold grows well on organic products such as paper, wood, cardboard, and ceiling tiles. Mold can also grow on insulation, drywall, wallpaper, carpet, fabric, and upholstery. Mold can be controlled by cleaning and drying after water intrusion; having proper ventilation for showers, laundry, and cooking areas; making sure that windows, roofs, and pipes are free of leaks; and by controlling humidity levels. After moisture problems are alleviated it is recommended that mold removal be performed by a licensed contractor. Attempts to remove mold may cause mold spores to scatter and spread to other areas. In addition, treating mold without proper ventilation could result in health problems caused by the release of mycotoxins from the mold spores.

Treatment for mold exposure should include fluid support to prevent dehydration. The drug Oltipraz can increase glutathione conjugation of mold toxins while inhibiting the toxic effect of P450 oxidation, reducing liver toxicity and promoting safer elimination. A diet of carrots, parsnips, celery, and parsley may reduce the carcinogenic effects of mold. Bentonite clay and zeolite clay are reported to reduce the absorption of mold found in food. Supplementation with chlorophyllin, zinc, A, E, C, NAC, rosmarinic acid, and liposomal glutathione alone or in combination have been shown to mitigate the oxidative effects of mold.

With the Mycotoxins Test, we can identify mycotoxin exposures and make recommendations for detoxification treatments that have been effective.

Neurotransmitters

Neurotransmitters are the chemical messengers the nervous system needs to relay information from one nerve to another. Optimal neurotransmitter balance is required to maintain proper health. Imbalances can cause the brain and the body to be over- or under-stimulated, producing neurological or psychological symptoms. Over 75% of Americans have been found to have suboptimal neurotransmitter levels.

Genetics, environment, chemicals and nutritional deficiencies are a few factors that can impact neurotransmitter production. Once out of balance, the nervous system begins to compensate – which, in time, can lead to neurological or psychological symptoms.

Some of the more common psychological conditions we see today are known to be accompanied by neurotransmitter imbalances. However, it’s also possible for individuals to present with similar symptoms yet have unique foundational imbalances. Testing helps clarify these root issues.

  • Neurotransmitter testing may be applicable to both male and female patients. Expression of the following symptoms can indicate neurotransmitter imbalances.

    • Anxiety / Depression

    • Adrenal dysfunction / Fatigue

    • Poor sleep / Loss of mental focus, or cognitive fog

    • ADD and ADHD

    • Addiction or dependency

    • Loss of appetite control

    • Compulsive behavior / Cravings

    • Low libido / Sexual dysfunction

Adrenal hormones, sex hormones, and neurotransmitters are functionally interrelated. Changes in sex hormones and adrenal hormones can lead to neurotransmitter imbalances. In turn, neurotransmitter imbalances can affect hormone function. Including neurotransmitters with hormone panels provides a more comprehensive view of the body’s functional neuroendocrine status, this interrelationship, and the associated factors that may be contributing to symptoms.

Organic Acids

Organic acids are chemical compounds excreted in the urine that are products of metabolism. Metabolism is the sum of chemical reactions in living beings by which the body builds new molecules and breaks down molecules to eliminate waste products and produce energy.

The Organic Acids Test offers a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of a patient’s overall health with 76 markers. It provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Abnormally high levels of these microorganisms can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, fatigue and immune function. Many people with chronic illnesses and neurological disorders often excrete several abnormal organic acids in their urine. The cause of these high levels could include oral antibiotic use, high sugar diets, immune deficiencies, acquired infections, as well as genetic factors.

Tick-borne Disease

It has been found that over 50% of ticks carry Lyme or other tick-borne diseases. Lyme disease, the most common tick borne disease in the United States, can cause fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrant. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.

Tick-borne Complete is one of the most comprehensive panels that determines with 99.99% accuracy if the tick that bit you carries Lyme or 10 additional tick-borne diseases.

Tick-Borne Relapsing Fever (TBRF) is often considered a Lyme disease imitator because both TBRF and Lyme sufferers display many similar symptoms. Moreover, some of the Borrelia that cause TBRF are transmitted by the same ticks that transmit B. burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. Therefore, it is important to test for both TBRF and Lyme disease.

Symptoms of Lyme appear days or weeks after the initial bite. Only tick testing enables you to determine if you were exposed to a tick-borne disease before symptoms ever appear, allowing you to discuss proactive treatment options with your doctor.

• Protein microarray antigen and PCR detection of Lyme disease and TBRF

• Protein microarray antigen and PCR detection of co-infections of tickborne diseases (Anaplasma, Babesia, Borellia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia and Ricketsia species)
